Have you ever been someone that hates running and would rather do some other physical activity? I’m raising my hand! I would dread the thought of going outside for a run and would just walk instead. My husband loves it and can run for miles. He always comes back home full of energy and more relaxed. So about three months ago I decided I was going to start training to run a marathon in a year. Plus, I wanted to do something active with my husband especially since he enjoys it so much. Here we are and I can honestly say I am obsessed with it now. It’s pretty amazing because you don’t need a gym and you can go anywhere you desire. Now I understand why people love to run. It gives you the time to just focus on one thing and get away from what’s going on in the world. And the benefits of running are pretty awesome.
The way I’ve started running is by doing heart rate zone. This allows you to slowly strengthen aerobic capacity so you can become a well-rounded runner. There are five different zones and you don’t just start running whatever you feel with this kind of training. It’s much more difficult because it takes discipline. I’m just now entering zone two where I feel comfortable to jog for a few miles. One day a week (usually Saturdays) I do intervals. Intervals give me another intensity where I can burn more calories faster. I will walk a speed of 4.2 for four minutes and then do a sprint of 10 for two minutes switching back and forth for 30 minutes. Trust me you’ll feel the burn. And it’s so worth it.
Running improves your health by boosting your immune system and lowering any risk of blood clots. It also helps you lose weight because it is the leading way to burn off extra calories you may be struggling with. And if any of you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed, running provides an outlet for you to clear your mind. It has definitely been helping me stay in shape and give me sanity when my little man is fussy. So I encourage you to try running so you can improve your health! xoxo
