Why Drinking Lemon Water Each Morning Will Stimulate Weight Loss And Enhance Detoxification

I get a lot of questions on how I stay healthy, attain my glow, and lose weight. So I’m going to tell you one of my little secrets that starts it off bright and early.

Every morning I drink either hot or cold lemon water as soon as I get up. 

Why do I do this? 

And how does this make you lose weight and detox? 

When I first started getting more into what I was putting into my body and how to take care of it, I found that drinking water throughout the day is the best thing for you. But, I wanted something that would make me feel good right away as soon as I woke up. And when you add lemon juice it does exactly that.

BOOSTS IMMUNE SYSTEM

You know that feeling when you can tell a sore throat is coming? Well, add some lemon juice in your water and this will prevent the inflammation from increasing. The vitamin C found in lemons acts as an anti-inflammatory to reduce swelling or other illnesses that are stirring up. 

Lemons are a powerful antioxidant that can strengthen your immune system and protect your body from highly reactive cells known as free radical cells. Those cells may lead to cancer if you don’t have the right antioxidants to neutralize them from causing damage. Crazy right!? Bring on the power of that lemon juice!

 

AIDS IN DIGESTION AND INDIGESTION

Last night my stomach was upset and when I woke up I had my lemon water within half an hour I was feeling at ease again. Lemons have citric acid which stimulates digestive enzymes to loosen toxins in your digestive tract

So, if you feel any kind of bloating or upset stomach pains drinking lemon water eases this discomfort so you can continue with your day. 

It works wonders! 

And when you are eating, having some lemon water will help your stomach process the right nutrients you are taking in more slowly.

KEEPS YOUR SKIN LOOKING RADIANT

With these lovely antioxidants that are found in lemon juice, it helps decrease blemishes and unwanted wrinkles. And ladies especially, you know we are all about having glowing skin. 

When you drink lemon water even for a week you’ll notice an improvement in your skin. 

The vitamins are great because they keep producing collagen for the years to come. And when my skin is begging to be revitalized, I squeeze lemon juice into a bowl and dip a cotton pad into the juice, sprinkle a little organic cane sugar on top and use the pad as an exfoliant. One of the great benefits that I’ve noticed when drinking lemon water is that my body has gotten rid of toxins. It flushes out your system with the help of liver detoxification enzymes allowing you to have a cleaner feeling in your body.

When I’ve let myself indulge a little more than normal and start to notice my pants getting snug, I immediately get back into drinking hot lemon water in the morning. I know that lemons are loaded with antioxidants so this will boost my metabolism before my day starts. And the pectin fibers found in lemons act as a suppressant to curve hunger cravings.

A Fall Time Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

It has been so hot and humid for the past week and it’s making me want Fall to come soon! Yesterday I went on a run and afterwards I was craving something cold and Fall like. This pumpkin pie smoothie was the best Fall-inspired thing to have. It’s packed with pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, coconut milk, and more! You’ll be in the festive spirits in no time. 

This pumpkin pie smoothie is filled with plenty of nutritious ingredients like the pumpkin. Pumpkin aids in weight loss since it is filled with fiber, so it will keep you feeling full for longer. It also protects your skin with free radical neutralizing powers of carotenoids that keep cancer cells at bay! 

So get that blender out and get your taste buds into that Fall feeling!!

Ingredients:

1 (14-ounnce) can light coconut milk, chilled

4 pitted Medjool dates

1/2 cup canned unsweetened pumpkin pie puree

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

5-6 ice cubed

*optional: 2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice

Directions:

  1. Soak pitted dates for 30 minutes in water. This will soften the dates and helps the blender blend them smooth. If you have a Vitamix you can skip this step since the machine is powerful enough to blend the dates.
  2. Place all ingredients into blender and blend until smooth. 
  3. Pour into 2 glasses add some ground cinnamon on top and serve immediately. 

My Day On A Plate.

Since I’m a busy mom and have a few projects in the works I have to make sure my diet stays on track. I am a foodie and enjoy recreating recipes, that way it sticks to my lifestyle of eating. On the weekends I tend to be a little more relaxed with what I eat, especially since I have a sweet tooth. My secret that I do to keep my sweet tooth under control is, I make my deserts vegan, gluten-free, and/ or raw sometimes. 

It is possible to make healthy choices that can fit into your busy lifestyle, without creating stress. I will be coming out with an e-cookbook soon so make sure you keep with me. It’s going to teach you how to implement and create healthy everyday eating into your life. Crave out some time to on the weekend preferably Sunday to make a few breakfast, lunch meals, and snacks ready to grab-and-go. Trust me it’ll be easier to stay on track with making nutritious choices during the weekday. And once you’ve found what works for you, give yourself a little indulgence on the weekend. Don’t over do it though because it’ll be hard to get back at it starting Monday. 

5am: I wake up and start my training right away. Mornings work the best for me because I like to get it done and over with. I feel more energetic starting the day like I’ve been recharged. 

630am: I make myself a green smoothie like my “Glowing Green Smoothie” so my insides are packed with nourishing foods to keep me satisfied. Especially when I never know how busy I will be with my little boy. 

9am: This is usually when I have a coconut milk latte. I need my coffee buzz and the coconut milk is an added benefit. But, sometimes when I feel myself a little more hungry than usual, I eat Purely Elizabeth granola with fresh berries and almond milk. 

1230pm: Lunch time is one of my favorites because I love having a nutrient dense salad. I make my salads with leafy greens, any veggies that sound good, quinoa for protein and carbs, and sometimes I like to add fruit so sweeten it up. And when I need some added protein i’ll add chickpeas, lentils, or black beans.

3pm: Around this time I usually make some kind of tea that aids in digestive support. This will help keep my stomach from feeling bloated and calm any discomfort I may have. Even when I I feel that my digestive system is fine, tea has great benefits for that mid-day crash. 

630pm: Dinner time! This is one of my favorite meals to make besides breakfast. Usually, for dinner, I try to make a dish that uses legumes, quinoa or brown rice, and veggies. When I do make dinner I usually make more than enough because it’s easy leftovers. Then I don’t have to make something new every day. This is great for those of you who are busy! Yesterday I made this quinoa bowl with kale, chickpeas, chopped bell pepper, and an avocado cilantro dressing on top.

730-8pm: Now I think this is the time most of us look forward to but feel guilty when we have something sweet. My trick to satisfy my sweet tooth is making dessert healthy. I usually make banana nice cream. One dessert that I make is a raw berry tart. Oh, my! it’s so refreshing and filling you only need a sliver and it’s healthy! No feeling guilty here!
